Ashleigh and I work as a close-knit team, combining my extensive experience on the road with Ashleigh’s hands-on management in the office. We’re supported by a highly skilled team dedicated to delivering personalised pest and termite solutions tailored to the needs of families and businesses across Moreton Bay and surrounding suburbs.
We specialise in termite detection and management, focusing on long-term, effective treatments rather than short-term fixes that risk termites returning. Our commitment is to protect your home or business with reliable, quality pest control solutions you can trust.

Robert Short
Owner / Technician
Born and raised on Gubbi Gubbi Country in South East Queensland, Rob is a second-generation pest professional with over 25 years of hands-on experience in termite and pest management. Rob’s career began under the guidance of his parents, Phillip and Julie Short, who owned and operated the original Shorty’s Pre-Treat & Pest Control — a trusted name on the Sunshine Coast for over 30 years.
Now based in Burpengary, Rob continues the family legacy through Shorty’s Pest Management, offering expert termite inspections, termite prevention treatments, and full-service residential and commercial pest control across Moreton Bay, North Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast. Rob has earned a strong reputation as a reliable Termite Specialist, known for clear communication, long-term solutions, and an unwavering focus on customer care. Whether inspecting a local home for termites or designing a tailored pest management plan, Rob brings deep industry knowledge and genuine pride in his work.
He also holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and regularly supports other pest technicians and companies throughout Queensland, sharing knowledge and promoting industry excellence.
With a passion for ongoing learning and a strong connection to the local community, Rob leads Shorty’s Pest Management with integrity, experience, and a commitment to keeping homes protected
Ashleigh Short
Owner / Scheduler of All Things/ Business Manager / Marketing Director / Communications Officer/ HR Department / Photographer / Party Planner / Coffee Supplier
Ashleigh is a Torres Strait Islander woman, born and raised on Larrakia Country in Darwin before moving to Gubbi Gubbi Country in South East Queensland at the age of ten. She brings a deep understanding of people, systems, and community to her role in helping run the family business.
After graduating from the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2008 with a Bachelor of Business, Ashleigh built a diverse career across the Federal, State, and University sectors, specialising in Administration, Human Resources, and career development. Much of her work has focused on supporting Indigenous Australians in education and employment — a cause she continues to champion with passion.
Ashleigh now oversees the day-to-day operations of Shorty’s Pest Management, helping to drive business growth while ensuring customer service and company values remain at the core of everything we do. Based in Burpengary, she manages our office and supports customers across the Moreton Bay Region, North Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast.
Ashleigh is married to Rob, our Owner and Termite Specialist. Together, they combine over two decades of industry experience with a genuine commitment to providing expert, reliable pest control to local families and businesses.
As a co-founder and leader of our family-owned business, Ashleigh brings a thoughtful, grounded presence to every part of Shorty’s — from strategic planning to supporting customers and everything in between.
Darren Summerrell
Senior Pest Technician & Termite Specialist
With over 15 years of experience in the pest control industry, Darren is a highly skilled Senior Pest Technician and Termite Specialist
who plays a key role in delivering professional, reliable service at Shorty’s Pest Management.
Darren specialises in comprehensive termite inspections, termite prevention treatments, and residential pest management. He takes pride in providing thorough, honest assessments and offering long-term solutions tailored to each property. Whether it’s identifying early signs of termite activity or installing effective termite protection systems using premium products, Darren brings a calm, methodical approach and genuine care to every job.
Having lived in South East Queensland for more than a decade, Darren understands the specific pest pressures of the region — particularly in suburbs like North Lakes, Burpengary, Narangba, and surrounding areas. He’s based in North Lakes with his family and is known for his friendly, customer-first attitude and attention to detail.
Darren is not just a technician — he’s someone who takes the time to explain the process, answer questions, and ensure each customer feels confident and supported. His combination of experience, approachability, and specialised termite knowledge makes Darren an invaluable part of the Shorty’s Pest Management team — and a trusted face for many of our regular clients.
Shorty Senior
Really, Really Senior Technician
With over four decades of experience in the pest control industry, Phillip “Shorty” Short is a well-known and highly respected name across the Sunshine Coast and beyond.
Shorty began his career in pest and termite management in the early 1980s. In 1985, alongside his wife Julie, he founded Shorty’s Pre-Treat & Pest Control – a business that would go on to serve thousands of local homes and builders over the next 20 years. Known for his honest advice, sharp attention to detail, and calm, no-nonsense approach, Shorty quickly built a reputation as one of the region’s most trusted termite professionals. Even now, many Sunshine Coast locals still recognise the Shorty’s name thanks to the strong foundation he and Julie built between 1985 and 2005.
Although officially retired, Shorty remains passionate about the industry and still lends a hand when needed. You might see him onsite from time to time, assisting on larger termite treatments and sharing his knowledge with the next generation. He’s proud to see his legacy continued through Shorty’s Pest Management, operated by his son Rob.
Shorty’s enduring presence is a reminder that real experience matters — especially when it comes to protecting homes from termites and pests.
