Looking for Pest Control? Where do you start?

So you are calling up pest control company’s looking for quotes and prices. There are so many companies to choose from – it is all feeling a bit overwhelming. Times are tough and you want a good deal. We get it, we do too.

Best to start at the beginning. What are your priorities? We would have at least three main priorities.

  • What do you want?
  • Who do you want?
  • When do you want?

The odds are you know the answers already – but let us break it down for you.

What do you want?

We think this breaks into two areas, what pests and what price? What sort of Pest Control do you want – termites, cockroaches, spiders, silverfish, fleas? There are so many insects and common pests out there. It is best to have some idea of what you are targeting. Most households will need a General Pest Treatment. This covers the industry’s big 4 – Spiders, Ants, Silverfish and Cockroaches. Rodents can also be a problem at different times of the year, and impact greatly on your homes health and safety. Termite inspections should be done annually – so if you are looking for multiple services, ask for a discount.

That leads us into what price. We think it is best to understand that price is not everything, and you should always focus on value for money. You should find a balance of price, quality and trust. We offer premium products and premium service. This means all products used are the best available and we use current techniques and treatments. We are committed to only recommending products you need and ensuring all information you receive is both factual and ethical. All of our products are safe for your whole family including children and pets.

Who do you want?

You should want the person entering your home or workplace to be highly experienced and highly qualified. When you book in Pest Control ask how much experience the person attending has – a business can claim that they have 30 years of experience – but what about the person actually walking through your door? Ask if they are licenced and insured – you have every right to ask for proof of this. If they are hesitant or decline – you should question it. Every Pest Control company should have their own Queensland Building and Construction Commission licence number to undertake termite work. Ask them if they have a blue card and current police check – if these are important to you, ask as these people are often coming into your home.

When do you want it?

When you have a problem, you often want it fixed immediately. While that makes sense, just take a moment, and consider for instance termites. How long have they been there? How much damage will they do in the coming days and weeks? How much are they immediately impacting on your current wellbeing? Remember, you have time to consider your options. Termites are not going to eat you out of house and home in a few days – take a little time and get some quotes, understand the value of one company to another in relation to price and service, find a company and technician you feel comfortable with and trust enough to come into your home. Don’t let anyone use high pressure sales and fear to sell to you. During the whole interaction you should feel reassured not stressed by their words. This is especially true of active Termites. Termites will likely have been there for a while before you have found them – a few days or even a week will not greatly impact your home or their treatment.

What is the takeaway from this? Figure out what you want and need done. Find a company and technician that you have confidence in and trust enough to come to your home or workplace. Remember that your pest needs may be able to wait a few days for the right person to come to you and to not let anyone use pressure sales to get you over the line.

You are the customer and should feel comfortable and in control at all times.
